| What is WINHEC? |

WINHEC provides an international forum and support for indigenous peoples to pursue common goals through higher education. WINHEC was officially launched at Delta Lodge, Kananaskis Calgary in Alberta Canada during the World Indigenous Peoples Conference on Education (WIPCE) 4-10 August 2002. The founding state/country members present were Australia, the states of Hawai’i and Alaska and the American Indian Higher Education Consortium of the United States, Canada, the Wänanga of Aotearoa (New Zealand), and Sápmi (Northern Europe). Since 2002 there have been eight annual general meetings, in the following places: 2002 Te Arawa Campus (NZ) 2003 University of Hawaii, Honolulu, Hawaii (US) 2004 Griffith University, Brisbane, Queensland (AU) 2005 Glenview, Hamilton (NZ) 2006 Fond du Lac Tribal & Community College, Cloquet, Minnesota (US) 2007 Chaminade University, Honolulu, Hawaii (US) 2008 La Trobe University, Melbourne (AU) 2009 First Nations Technical Institute, Mohawk Community Centre, Tyendinaga (CA)
